Video Atelier w/ Cristina Maldonado + Isa Juchniewicz
Video Atelier was a doorway to thinking and learning about images. It did not limit itself to the genre of video art, but attempted to look at it in a wider historical context. The aim of the project was to give students a strong technical foundation, as well as the theoretical framework to think about the moving image in various ways. Students were taught to talk about practices of image-making, to create technically correct images, as well as to work with the medium more instinctively and intuitively. The studio became a creative environment for the students to engage in the production and presentation of “video” (and the discussions around it) in- and outside of the classroom.
My role: as Lecturer#
I taught a technical workshop focusing on video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro. A huge part of my teaching material was focused on introducing and dissecting my own video editing process as well as giving students the found footage material to work with during workshop sessions using the theoretical and practical frameworks I had provided.

At the start of every Summer semester, I would take the students on a trip to Brno where we visited Vašulka Kitchen, to receive introductory presentations to the Vašulkas and the exhibitions they were hosting at the time. I am grateful to Gajane Achverdjanová and Jennifer Helia DeFelice for their consistent support during these visits.
